Holiday Gift Ideas

As we all get older I find it hard to get a gift for my family that have everything. Gift cards can seem in personal even though some are the best route.  Finding a unique gift that they know they will use over and over that also provides value for their health is the road I try to go down.

If you still need to grab a gift for your family or friends here are some great healthy ideas.

Salt Lamp

Salt Lamps ionize the air, and also provide a wonderful light source that can create a peaceful space.

Diffuser with Essential Oils

This is a great way to add a clean natural aroma to your home, with out burning toxic petroleum candles. Choose a 100% therapeutic grade essential oil to diffuse. Brands like Young Living, DoTerra and Plant Therapy make great oils.

Whole Foods Gift Card

My sister is the queen of this. If you have a family memeber with a Whole Foods around them and you don't, you can email them a gift card. Whole Foods can scan it right on the recipents phone!

!

Addictive Wellness Chocolate

Sage and Ana Blanca have this amazing chocolate and elixer blends. It is a wonderful gift for the chocolate lover in your life and will give back to their health 10xs!

I hope this gives you a good start or to get the ball rolling to you coming up with healthy gift ideas for those on your list.

Fall into new eating patterns

changing seasons.jpg

The first day of Fall was on Friday, September 22.  In Tennessee you wouldn't know it with the 80 degree temps.   The leaves are falling off the trees and things are beginning to die off for winter.  This is a great time to cleanse and prep your body for a new season.

WHY?  When the seasons change new food is in season and we tend to crave new foods and foods that provide us what we need for the season.  In the winter we usually crave warmer foods, stews, cooked foods and heavier root veggies and meats.  We need to be mindful of our digestion during this time, because these foods can take more work to break down if your digestion is already compromised.

What type of cleanse is good?  That will be dependent on where your body is at the time of cleansing and what your goals are.  I am currently doing an 80% juice cleanse.  4 20oz all great juices, a seaweed soup for breakfast and a raw zucchini noodle pai tai for dinner.  Juicing is not my favorite thing because I love to eat. I do like it for the digestive break I get and also the amount of nutrients I am consuming at one time.  If you are not used to restricting the types of food you eat, then a food based cleanse is a good choice. I offer two different ones.  How I am cleansing would fall into either one if you wanted to be that strict.

Do not complicate cleansing but do remind mindful that it serves a purpose much more than a fad.  Make sure your colon is eliminating extra during cleanse time or you will have a lot of gas and constipation.   Drink plenty of water and make sure you are able to rest.

You got this!

To be Alkaline.

alakline chart.jpg

Being Alkaline is not just about drinking water at a certain PH and then thinking it will solve your problems.    Darnit, I know that is the trend lately. I find it so funny the trend also involves said Alkaline water in plastic jugs, even if they are BPA free.

Improvements will be made of course, just because the body is simply being hydrated.  Improvements will also be made because most people are drinking tap water or close to it water out of plastic jugs that is acidic and at a low PH.  This blog isn't just about water, it is about becoming and staying alkaline.   Water is where I see a lot of people go and think it will solve the problem. Choosing to EAT alkaline will solve the problem.    Dis-ease thrives in an acidic environment.  Candida and parasites love when our body is acidic and giving them a place to grow.

It is like a broken record but start with leafy greens. Chlorophyll is alkaline. Taking in tons of leafy greens will cleanse the blood and allow us to become less acidic.   We do want some acidness, but this will come in the form of nuts and seeds along with animal products if you choose to eat meat. We can shoot for an 80/20 balance.

It is also helpful to only pair one acidic thing with your alkaline meal.  For instance, the average plate is meat (acidic) carb (acidic) and salad or veggie side (alkaline).  The goal should be protein and tons of alkaline veggies, that is it.  Fruits and good fats are still in the moderately alkaline state, so having an avocado with a meal is fine.

Remember to be mindful when you look at your plate, or even before you make your food. What does my body need? Is it serving to help fuel me or just to taste good.  Ideally it is doing both for you.

You got This!

Sugar Free Chocolate Mousse

So today in Middle Tennessee its a snow day. This doesnt mean much for me as far as the kids go because we homeschool. It does however having me wishing I was living in California.  I love the beauty of snow but do not like to have my freedom taken away, if that makes sense.

But, what can you do so I started making yummy food.   I juiced turmeric and ginger for shots and made my raw kale salad, and now I am sharing with you the vegan chocolate mousse that I like that is also sugar free!

I am not a huge sweets person, I like a good piece of chocolate now and then or a bite here or there, but I do not crave sugar.  I will add stevia to my tea and thats about it.  This dessert is decadent, fulfilling, nutritious and can also have you back away from the chocolate cake.  And when the need does arrive it will fill the dessert craving for me :)

You will need:

Vitamix or food processor

1 organic ripe avocado

1-2 tsp coconut oil

1/4 cup raw cacao powder

1.5 packets of stevia, or xylitol

1 tsp organic vanilla extract

touch of sea salt

approx 1/4 cup of nut milk

optional toppings:  cacao nibs, goji berries, hemp seeds, vegan chocolate chips

Place all ingredients in the mixer of choice and blend. You may have to scrape the sides a couple times or add more nut milk if you would like it smoother. Place in fridge until cold throughout, then eat!   If you are not worried about sugar you can use honey or pure maple syrup instead of stevia for a nice flavor change.

Now since my pictures are so fancy ( sarcasm) I hope it shows you how yummy this is. Really think chocolate gelato with a hint of avocado.
